For the first time in the history of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) accountancy exams, every top-performing student this year was female. This is up a significant percentage from just November, when 77 percent of the top-scorers in the Advanced Level were female. The HSNO London office is privileged to share that one of our own has earned significant standing and praise.
“HSNO is proud to announce that Sarah Rodin of our London Office has placed first internationally in her Professional Level accountancy exams and won the Leo T Little prize. Sarah was one of seven prize winners across the March 2015 sitting and the only one not to work at a ‘Big 4’ accountancy firm. Sarah was our first employee in HSNO London and it’s great that she has shown that a person choosing to work in a boutique accountancy firm can compete with, and beat, the best the largest firms can offer.”
ICAEW wants this new figure to help encourage more women to enter the profession. As of now, only about 35 percent of accounting students in the profession are women, according to the FRC. There is a current push to get more female CFOs in the business as well.
According to Accountancy Age, the executive director for the exam had this to say about the women as the top-performers: “Women are demonstrating real excellence when it comes to chartered accountancy exams. At this stage of entering the profession, it’s women who are dominating the top scores and they are role models for all women thinking about taking up chartered accountancy. Our qualification is known for creating business leaders, and I hope these scores mean we see a stream of female business leaders in the future.
“I’d like to congratulate all our students as these results were phenomenal. We had consistently high pass rates across the papers. It’s important to celebrate these results – our students are showing us and employers that we have a bright future of ICAEW chartered accountants coming through. It’s not just about passing these exams, it’s about taking that next step in their career.”
Pass rates overall in the ICAEW are currently at 92 percent in Business Strategy and 87.1 percent in Audit and Assurance papers.
